Optogrid is building a dedicated WooCommerce plugin for optical retailers. Phase 1 launches in December 2025 with a complete optical storefront framework — frames, lens add-ons, dynamic pricing, and prescription-aware order stages. Phase 2 adds direct integration with the Optogrid measurement platform so customers can submit remote PD and SH measurements at checkout.
After months of research and direct feedback from optical professionals, we’re bringing the same precision and automation that power Optogrid into the WooCommerce ecosystem.
Phase 1: Launching the Optical Commerce Plugin
The first release makes it straightforward to build a full optical e-commerce flow inside WooCommerce without writing code.
Store owners will be able to:
- Add frames as products with optional lens add-ons
- Include coatings, prescriptions, and customization options
- Display dynamic pricing that reflects each configuration
- Track optical-specific order stages — pending prescription, in lab, ready to ship
This closes a real gap. Selling prescription eyewear online is fundamentally different from selling physical goods: a customer’s order cannot proceed without a valid prescription and accurate measurements. Standard WooCommerce handles neither. This plugin handles both.

Phase 2: Integrating With Optogrid for Remote PD Measurement
In the second phase, the plugin will integrate directly with the Optogrid API, allowing merchants to collect precise Pupillary Distance (PD) and Segment Height (SH) measurements from customers remotely — using just a photo.
This closes the loop between online ordering and the optical lab manufacturing workflow, enabling true end-to-end optical commerce. To understand why accurate PD matters for online lens orders, see Comparing PD Measurement Methods.
Why WooCommerce Instead of Shopify?
We initially developed a Shopify app but ran into multiple technical and policy limitations that slowed progress significantly. WooCommerce gives us the open API access and plugin architecture needed to build the optical-specific order flow correctly.
Shopify integration remains on the roadmap, but the WooCommerce plugin will launch first — offering optical retailers a faster path to real-world use.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing is not finalized. Our goal is to keep the plugin accessible for small and mid-size optical businesses, with a free tier for single-location stores under consideration.
We are targeting an initial release in December 2025, with early beta access before that date.
If you run an optical store on WooCommerce and want early access or want to share feedback on the feature set, contact us through the Optogrid website — we’d like to hear what your workflow actually needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will the WooCommerce plugin launch? Phase 1 is targeted for December 2025. Beta access will be available before the general release. Pricing and exact dates will be announced on the Optogrid blog.
Will it work with any WooCommerce theme? The plugin is designed to work with standard WooCommerce themes. It adds custom product types, order meta fields, and status stages — none of which require a specific theme. Styling inherits from your existing WooCommerce setup.
How does the remote PD measurement work in Phase 2? Phase 2 integrates with the Optogrid measurement platform, which uses a photo taken by the customer to calculate PD and Segment Height. The measurement is linked to the order so your lab receives accurate data without requiring the customer to visit the store. Learn more about pupil distance averages and measurement accuracy.
Do customers need to install anything to submit measurements? No. The Optogrid measurement flow runs in the browser. Customers take a photo following on-screen instructions — no app download required.
What happens if a customer doesn’t submit their prescription or measurements? The plugin includes prescription-aware order stages. Orders requiring measurement or prescription data are held in a “pending prescription” status, and store owners can follow up through the WooCommerce order management interface.
